Simón Gornés, Environment Counselor, Biosphere Reserve and Cooperation of the Consell Insular de Menorca, shares today his experience visiting the Salinas de la Concepción.
The first impression, the first time I visited Las Salinas, it was a place, a truly spectacular landscape but neglected and abandoned. The Salinas were classified as heritage.
The project, honestly, has surprised me a lot, because seeing the past compared to how it is today and how all the ponds and the Salinas as a whole have been recovered from a heritage point of view is very interesting.
And from an environmental point of view, we can also see how, in some way, the human investment in a protected territory is reversed. Here the essence of the biosphere reserve is embodied.
Which is to combine the protection of the environmental surroundings with the coexistence of humans on a territory in harmony.
