The Salt Flats of La Concepción: the origin of Menorca Salt

The La Concepción salt flats , located at the bottom of Fornells Bay, are the only active saltworks in Menorca . Dating back to 1853 , they were the heart of virgin sea salt production on the island for almost two centuries.
A unique environment, where the sun, wind and sea work in balance to give life to a natural product full of identity.

The rebirth in 2021: salt-making tradition recovered

In 2021 we undertook the rehabilitation of this historic space with a clear purpose: to return Menorca's salt-making tradition and share it with the world under the Sal de Menorca brand.
We are reviving the traditional salt-making craft, passing on its artisanal knowledge and applying principles of sustainability and respect for the environment. Each salt crystal we harvest preserves the essence of the island and the legacy of past generations.

Our products: Fleur de Sel and Virgin Sea Salt

From this natural and manual process our two treasures are born: Flor de Sal and Virgin Sea Salt .

Fleur de Sel: a treasure of the Mediterranean

Fleur de Sal is considered the white gold of the sea. Its fine, crisp crystals contain 97% sodium chloride and 3% essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
It is harvested exclusively between May and September , when the sun and wind conditions allow it, following delicate techniques that require the experience of our salt makers.

We currently produce four varieties:

Natural Fleur de Sel

Fleur de Sel with herbs from Menorca (oregano, thyme and rosemary)

Spicy Fleur de Sel (pepper and cayenne)

Smoked Fleur de Sel

A gourmet condiment that enhances any dish, from fresh salads to meats, fish or traditional Menorcan recipes.

Virgin Sea Salt: authentic and mineral

Unlike common industrial salt, Virgin Sea Salt from Menorca retains all its minerals intact. Its flavor is more intense and profound, ideal for baking, stews, or slow cooking.
A pure product, without additives or mechanical processes, that brings the true taste of the sea to your table.

Salt in our diet

Salt is essential in our diet: it helps maintain fluid balance and vital functions.
The WHO recommends a maximum daily intake of 5g . Of that amount:

75% is already present in processed foods.

We add 15% during cooking.

The remaining 10% is up to each person to enhance their dishes.

Therefore, choosing an artisanal, natural salt without additives , like Sal de Menorca, makes the difference between an industrial condiment and a product that retains all its purity.

Sustainability and values of Sal de Menorca

At Sal de Menorca we believe that quality goes hand in hand with values:

Handcrafted and manual production , without mechanization or industrialization.

Environmental respect , with zero emissions in harvesting and packaging.

No plastics in the packaging, opting for sustainable materials.

Local economy and proximity , supporting the Menorcan community.

Cultural heritage , preserving the traditional trade of the salt worker.

Each grain of salt tells a story: the story of Menorca, its sea and its people.
