The salt pans of La Conception are a nature reserve, inhabited by a diverse range of plants and birds.

Several plant species, such as salicornia, socarrell and sea grass, have adapted to the harsh combination of wind, high salinity, rocky areas, and wetlands.

The salt pans also provide a perfect habitat for endemic birds and a safe wintering area for herons, flamingos, great cormorants, and various species of ducks.
