How to get there

The Salt Flats of La Concepción: the origin of Menorca Salt

The La Concepción Saltworks, located at the bottom of Fornells Bay, are the only active saltworks in Menorca. Dating back to 1853, for nearly two centuries they were the heart of virgin sea salt production on the island.
A unique environment where the sun, wind, and sea work in harmony to create a natural product full of character.

The revival in 2021: salt-making tradition restored
In 2021, we began restoring this historic site with a clear purpose: to bring back Menorca’s salt-making tradition and share it with the world under the Sal de Menorca brand.
We revived the salt worker’s craft, passing on their artisanal knowledge and applying sustainability and environmental respect principles. Every grain of salt we harvest preserves the island’s essence and the legacy of past generations.

Our products: Fleur de Sel and Virgin Sea Salt
From this natural, hands-on process come our two treasures: Fleur de Sel and Virgin Sea Salt.

Fleur de Sel: a Mediterranean treasure
Fleur de Sel is considered the white gold of the sea. Its fine, crunchy crystals contain 97% sodium chloride and 3% essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
It is harvested exclusively between May and September, when sun and wind conditions allow, using delicate techniques that require the expertise of our salt workers.

Currently, we produce four varieties:

Natural Fleur de Sel

Fleur de Sel with Menorca herbs (oregano, thyme, and rosemary)

Spicy Fleur de Sel (pepper and cayenne)

Smoked Fleur de Sel

A gourmet seasoning that enhances any dish, from fresh salads to meats, fish, or traditional Menorcan recipes.

Virgin Sea Salt: authentic and mineral-rich
Unlike common industrial salt, Menorca’s Virgin Sea Salt retains all its minerals intact. Its flavor is more intense and deep, ideal for baking, stews, or slow cooking.
A pure product, free of additives and mechanical processes, bringing the true taste of the sea to your table.

Salt in our diet
Salt is essential in our diet: it helps maintain fluid balance and vital functions.
The WHO recommends a maximum intake of 5 g per day. Of that amount:

75% is already present in processed foods.

15% is added during cooking.

The remaining 10% is added by each person to enhance their dishes.

Therefore, choosing an artisanal, natural, additive-free salt like Sal de Menorca makes the difference between an industrial seasoning and a product that preserves all its purity.

Sustainability and values of Sal de Menorca
At Sal de Menorca, we believe quality goes hand in hand with values:

Artisanal, manual production without mechanization or industrialization.

Environmental respect, with zero emissions during harvesting and packaging.

Plastic-free packaging, committed to sustainable materials.

Local economy and proximity, supporting the Menorcan community.

Cultural heritage, preserving the traditional salt worker’s craft.

Every grain of salt tells a story: that of Menorca, its sea, and its people.
